The business model everyone is talking about this year will eventually be replaced by another one. The useful skills travel. 1. Spotting opportunity Learn to notice where money is already moving. What are people trying to achieve? What frustrates them? What are they already paying for? Where are they wasting time? What has become unnecessarily difficult? What do they want to do better, faster, more beautifully, with more confidence or with less effort? And then look at yourself. What do you know unusually well? What have you learned through work, life or experience? What can you make, organise, explain, improve, source, simplify or see that somebody else cannot? Opportunity often sits somewhere between the two. Not “What digital product should I make?” More like: “What do I understand that could become useful to someone else?” That is a much more interesting place to begin. 2.
